Smoking is a risk factor for tooth decay and periodontal (gum) disease, mouth head and neck cancer (and other cancers) and cardiovascular disease.

Quit Mid-West is a free HSE stop smoking service that helps people in Clare, Limerick and North Tipperary. Quit Mid West supports Tobacco Free Ireland’s goal of having less than 5% of the population smoking by 2025. The Quit Mid West team of stop smoking advisors deliver the HSE standard treatment programme for help to stop smoking which offers free behavioural support (up to eight sessions) in the first year of quitting. The programme includes information on stop smoking medications where appropriate. Clinics are running across the Mid-West, with a Health Promotion and Improvement Officer who is trained as a stop smoking advisor in each of the eight HSE Community Healthcare Networks in this region.

Should you or anyone you know wish to avail of this free HSE service or learn more, call 065 6865841 to speak with one of the team.

A referral form has been developed for health professionals based in the Mid-West who may wish to make referrals to Quit Mid-West, which can be downloaded HERE

There is also of course the national HSE QUIT service, contact details  https://www2.hse.ie/quit-smoking/
