Letters to the Editor Oral healthcare needs to be promoted and made affordable and accessible

DHF CEO Calls for Urgent Action on Children’s Oral Healthcare

Following Eilish O’Regan’s article in Independent.ie (‘Tens of thousands of children finishing primary school without dental checks due to lack of HSE dentists’, July 21), our CEO Orlaith Kennedy wrote to the Editor of the Irish Independent, highlighting the urgent need to prioritise children’s oral health.

In her letter, published under the headline “Oral healthcare needs to be promoted and made affordable and accessible”, Ms. Kennedy stressed that “Promotion works. When people understand not just what to do, but why it matters – when it’s woven into schools, GP visits, community centres, even supermarket aisles – behaviour changes."

She urged the Government and health authorities to invest in both prevention and service delivery, ensuring all children have access to affordable and timely dental care.
