65 Roses Day: Oral Health and Cystic Fibrosis

“65 Roses Day” highlights the strength of people living with cystic fibrosis (CF) and the importance of supporting all aspects of their health, including oral health. Thanks to advances in care, people with CF are living longer, healthier lives. As a result, there is increasing recognition that oral health plays a vital role in overall wellbeing and quality of life.

CF can present unique oral health challenges. High-calorie diets, sugary supplements, and long-term medications can increase the risk of tooth decay and oral infections, while enamel defects may also be more common. In addition, bacteria in the mouth can impact lung health, making good daily oral hygiene and regular dental care especially important for those living with CF.

To support patients, families, and dental professionals, a dedicated Irish resource is available at https://oralhealthcf.ie/. This website offers practical, evidence-based advice to help manage oral health as part of comprehensive CF care.
