The Annual Conference of the Oral Health Promotion Research Group is taking place 29th September.

We are delighted to once again provide a Bursary of €1000 to promote the communication of current oral health promotion projects and work that is going on across Ireland.

The theme of the conference, ‘Changing Minds’, will encourage us all to focus on working together to find innovative ways to motivate and empower people towards positive lifestyle behaviours.

This year’s programme allows us to reflect on a wide variety of topics including the role of dentistry in childhood obesity management, toothbrushing in preschools, oral health and addiction, oral health inequalities, and special care dentistry.

A key focus of the Dental Health Foundation has been raising the public’s awareness of the impact of lifestyle behaviours, the links between oral health and overall health and wellbeing  and the common risk factors associated with poor dietary choices. We have developed short information postcards specific to each life stage and in collaboration with other organisations responsible for non‐communicable disease prevention and control (such as diabetes, heart disease, mouth head and neck cancer). Additionally, for people with specific oral health needs (Pregnant women, children with cleft lip palate (in collaboration with the cleft team in Children’s Hospital Ireland), methadone users, people with mental health concerns).

These can be downloaded and ordered for free from our website and are a great support to the dental team as a take-home message for their patients.  https://www.dentalhealth.ie/resources/educational/

We are very much looking forward to hearing on the day, the discussions which will help to generate new ideas for oral health promotion in Ireland. The Dental Health Foundation will continue to look for opportunities to translate such ideas into actions.
