DHF Award Best Oral Health Project 2015
The Dental Health Foundation would like to congratulate Ms Báirbre Pigott-Glynn, who was the recipient of the inaugural Dental Health Foundation Award for Best Community Oral Health Project. The award was presented at the recent graduation ceremony for the Diploma in Dental Hygiene at the Dublin Dental University Hospital, Trinity College.
The winning project was entitled 'Is there a role for the dental hygienist in the homeless sector?'
The literature reviewed found the homeless population to have a greater untreated physical, mental and dental disease experience. An increased emphasis on early oral health promotion for homeless people could be instrumental in reducing need for emergency treatment. The literature reviewed posed the question;
'Is there a role for the dental hygienist in the homeless sector?'
