National Health Information Strategy

1 Jan 2002

In April 2000, the Minister for Health and Children, Mr. Micheál Martin, announced the development of a National Health Information Strategy (NHIS), which would provide a blueprint for gathering and using information for health. The aim is to produce a strategy document in the autumn of 2001 that will guide the development of a co-ordinated and integrated health information system over the next 5-7 years, and that is responsive to the health information needs of stakeholders viz. the public, patients, carers, health professionals, service managers and policy makers. It is intended that the NHIS will support and complement the new Health Strategy that is due for release in the summer of 2002.For further details please visit the NHIS link on the Department of Health and Children's website
