Master Class on 'Literacy Awareness Training'

The Dental Health Foundation held a one day master class on 'Literacy Awareness Training', on 27th November 2001, which was led by the National Adult Literacy Agency (NALA). This Master Class was provided in response to a growing concern and interest expressed in relation to the tailoring of Oral Health Information, to meet the needs of adults experiencing literacy difficulties.

This training day was targeted at Dental Services Staff and Oral Health Promoters who were interested in understanding the causes and effects of literacy difficulties and to help identify how best they could respond. Dental Services Personnel from various Health Boards throughout the country attended.

Literacy Awareness is about ensuring that your organisation is aware of the size and range of issues related to adult literacy. It is not just about being informed but also being prepared for the challenges which low literacy levels present. In short it is about equipping management and staff to respond effectively to people who have literacy difficulties.

The Dental Health Foundation looks forward to running an equally successful series of Master Classes in 2002. Details of which shall be available on this website in the new year.
